SCOTT EDGAR & THE UNIVERSE ALBUM LAUNCH Melbourne based four piece fronted by the inestimable ARIA award winning songwriter Scott Edgar (Tripod) with the heart-and-soul of Mick Meagher and Rory McDougall. A vibey affair with 60’s rock sensibilities and rootsy-swing-drenched-pop packed into songs you’ll wake up with the next day; think Cole Porter meets They Might Be Giants with a touch of Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys thrown in for good measure. This is their first show Sydney with supports from Bruce and a sweet rocking acoustic set by Pete O’Doherty & Reg Mombassa in Dog Trumpet kicking off the evening. Scott Edgar & The Universe self titled debut album is officially launched that night. This swinging rootsy pop album features some pretty grand Australian musos - Kelly Wolfgramm, Andrea Kellar, Eamon McNelis and Xani Kolac. Get there early, for Dog Trumpet and Bruce!
www.myspace.com/brucetheband Bruce is the new project from trusted journeyman Cameron Bruce. (His myspace is www.myspace/cameronbruce. You should probably go there, because that existed first, and has alot of this stuff on it. Go. Go now. If you want). With the phenomenal, yet fading success of Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Fleetwood Mac, the time is ripe for a new band-named-after-the-surname-of-one-of-the-members-of-the-band to take the mantle. Cameron has spent the last few years surrounded my friends, loved-ones and clowns, touring the country and the world with David McCormack’s Polaroids, GUD, PInky Beecroft’s White Russians, and the Beautiful Girls, as well as whacking some piano down for all manner of bands in his spare time, and yet finding time to jump on stage with the likes of the Violent Femmes and Ronn Moss, that dude with the big jaw from that American soap. With Bruce, Cameron has gathered some of his loved-ones to record a few songs to produce the mini-album “The Name Of The Band Is...”. A lot of people say the mini-album is dead. A lot of people say Elvis is dead. This release debunks only one of those myths.

Dog Trumpet have completed their fourth album 'Antisocial Tendencies. With patient attention to detail over four and a half years of song writing and recording, the brothers (with different surnames) Peter O'Doherty and Reg Mombassa have crafted an indelible follow-up to 2002's eponymous Dog Trumpet release. There are 12 new songs, 6 each from Reg and Pete plus a cover of the World War Two hit 'Lili Marlene' made famous by Marlene Deitrich. Recorded by Peter at his Big Brain Studio in Sydney on a vintage 16 track reel to reel tape recorder the brothers sing and play all guitars, bass, harp and keyboards with embellishment from stellar guest musicians on cello, drums and percussion, flute, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, tuba double bass and harmonica. The live line up has Reg and Pete on guitars, Bernie Hayes on bass and backing vocals, Jess Ciampa (sometimes Hamish Stuart) on drums and backing vocals plus guest harmonica from Peter Mitchell. Bernie Hayes is a respected singer songwriter in his own right with his third album 'Homebody" newly released. Bernie also sings lead vocal and plays 12 string acoustic guitar on the Antisocial Tendencies track 'Bloomsbury Birds', Peter's homage to the English writer Virginia Woolf and her association with the literary and artistic world of the pre-war Bloomsbury group. The title track itself, Reg's distinctive call to arms Antisocial Tendencies has anti-establishment lyrics and hypnotic guitar figures striking a chord for fellow fringe dwellers, iconoclasts and artists of all stripes. Most of the songs had their basic arrangements ironed out with acoustic guitars around Pete and Reg's respective kitchen tables. The recording process would then begin with drums first or merely acoustics and vocals. Drums and percussion were sometimes added later as were the other instruments in a casual sort of ad hoc assembly of sounds. Some of the tunes found their way to final mixes rapidly. Others were tinkered with over months, sometimes even years as the layering process proceeded. With late additions of cello and flute the album has been mixed and mastered and is now released on Half a Cow Records.
